The Medical Arts Bldg

The Medical Arts building was a mid-rise located where part of the Republic Center is today. The lower floor was retail, and the second and third floors were given over for medical supply firms. All of the remaining upper floors were physicians offices. The building opened March 20, 1923.
The building was popular from opening, and a 4-level parking structure was added in 1926. A ,000,000 addition was added and opened in the summer of 1928.
The building was purchased by Republic Bank in 1966, but continued in use as a medical building. By 1977, Republic wanted to build an addition to its adjacent headquarters. It was said that the building did not meet city fire codes, and was in disrepair. Over the objections of its tenants and preservation groups, the building was dismantled.

The building was of Gothic style architecture. Soon after it was completed, A.E. Jenks of the national research council proclaimed it to be America's most beautiful gothic skyscraper. The white brick structure was the world's third tallest reinforced concrete building when completed in 1923.

This photo was scanned from a slide, that has "1973" written on it. Although I'm not sure of the exact photo date, that seems about right.

Weirdest Medical Marketing Piece

Medical

This is the strangest piece of marketing collateral I have ever seen. It is for a company that sells bowel cleansing products, as in to prep for a colonoscopy.

If only to make it weirder, the eyes are gooey. That spot on the right eye is a bug that got stuck on it and died.
