Series, Edition, Reviews, Second, Museum, Environment, Butterworth, Conservation, Heinemann, Museology Museum Environment, Second Edition (Butterworth - Heinemann Series in Conservation and Museology)
The Museum Environment is in two parts; Part I: intended for conservators and museum curators and describes the principles and techniques of controlling the environment so that the potentially damaging effects of light, humidity and air pollution on museum exhibits may be minimised. Part II: the author brings together and summarises information and data, hitherto widely scattered in the literature of diverse fields, which is essential to workers in conservation research.
Since the timely publication of the first two editions of this book in hardback, interest in preventive conservation has continued to grow strongly making publication of this paperback edition all the more welcome. Those whose responsibility it is to care for the valuable and beautiful objects in the world's collections have become increasingly aware that it is better to prevent their deterioration, by ensuring that they are housed and displayed in the best possible environmental conditions, than to wait until restoration and repair are necessary. The changes for the second edition have been mainly concentrated in the sections on electronic hygrometry, new fluorescent lamps, buffered cases, air conditioning systems, data logging, and control within historic buildings. A new appendix, giving a summary of museum specificiations for conservation, provides a useful, quick reference.
* New paperback edition of successful text * Now at lower price * Essential reading for conservators and museum curators and scientists

Essays from the Nick of Time: Reflections and Refutations
A new collection of prophetic essays from one of the sharpest practitioners of the form
Mark Slouka writes from a particular vantage point, one invoked by Thoreau, who wished âto improve the nick of time . . . to stand on the meeting of two eternities, the past and future.â At this bewildering convergence, Slouka asks us to consider what it means to be human and what we must revive, or reject, in order to retain our humanity in the modern world.
Collected over fifteen years, these essays include fascinating explorations of the relationship between memory and history and the nature of âtragedyâ in a media-driven culture; meditations on the transcendent âwisdomâ of the natural world and the role of silence in an age of noise; and arguments in defense of the political value of leisure time and the importance of the humanities in an age defined by the language of science and industry. Written in Sloukaâs supple and unerring prose, celebratory, critical, and passionate, Essays from the Nick of Time reawakens us to the moment and place in which we find ourselves, caught between the fading presence of the past and the neon lure of the future.
This one-semester survey of principles of physics for tech-nical students emphasizes practical applications that rep-resent a broad coverage of physics as it relates to the various technical areas. The concepts presented allow stu-dents to relate the principles of physics to practical job-related applications. The questions and problems at the end of each chapter have been carefully chosen for their realistic application to industry and for their instructional value. The only mathematics prerequisite is the algebra necessary to understand simple formulas. For teaching convenience, the more difficult sections of the text, which are optional, are identified by asterisks in the table of contents.
What states require you to pay personal property taxes on your private automobile?
I just moved to NC and they do require it. I've lived in AZ, TX, and FL, but have never come across this. I know state income taxes are the norm in most states, but I thought this was overkill. Any other states? Thank you!

Answer by missnfl0224 I don't know all of them, but I can tell you that MO makes you pay. I now live in IL and we don't have personal property tax on autos.

Careers In and Out of Organizations (Foundations for Organizational Science)
Careers In and Out of Organizations provides an overview of the changing context of careers and describes the role of interpersonal relationships as influences on development of a personâs identity and learning. The author examines the nature of the new career contract and the different approaches that have been taken to studying career decision making. He explores how career choices are made, the developmental stages people pass through during the course of their working lives in organizations, and the factors related to career effectiveness including integrating career and personal life. The latter third of the book turns from research to the practical issues involved in applying theory including a look at how an understanding of career dynamics can be employed to make careers work better for individuals and for the work communities where they are employed.
